A GUINEA pig rescue in Basingstoke will be holding a Christmas event at the rescue where families can meet the guinea pigs and help raise funds for the rescue.

Keki’s Guinea Pig Rescue will be holding a festive event for up to three or four families at a time to meet Santa and the Guinea Pigs at the rescue in Black Dam. The event will be held on Tuesday, December 19 from 12.30pm to 4pm, and will follow on from an event held on Sunday, December 17.

Keki’s Guinea Pig Rescue, based at Lindsey Keki's home in Black Dam, has been operating at full capacity ever since it was started in March this year.

The event will allow families to have a cuddle with the guinea pigs, purchase a mince pie and a hot drink, and have a look at some handmade items to purchase for Christmas, before meeting Santa.

Mother-of-five Lindsey was forced to give up work as a legal secretary for a conveyancing firm after suffering from health problems including fibromyalgia and blood clots in her lungs.

In 2021 she decided to get two male guinea pigs. However, the pair didn’t get along so Lindsey had to separate them before adopting three others. Her husband, Simon, then transformed their garden shed for the pets to use in the winter.

Lindsey's love for guinea pigs subsequently grew and in March 2023, Lindsey launched the rescue centre which now has around 30 guinea pigs.
