DOES anyone still watch or listen to the BBC?

Readers will have been alarmed to read the Gazette’s full-page warning (Thursday, December 7) about the looming threat that the national broadcaster could pose to independent journalism.

Using its monopolistic strength, funded by the taxpayer, it proposes to deliver via its BBC News website and app 'a local online news service for 43 local areas in England'.

The BBC’s plan is clearly a major danger to local journalism.

The organisation, once highly revered, continues to attract criticism for its hubristic attitude.

Who can forget the Jimmy Savile saga, plus the appalling attack on Sir Cliff Richard’s residence by a news-hungry helicopter crew?

And, all the while, the Director-General seems oblivious to the disgrace of a football presenter being paid over £1 million a year, when the rest of the nation is tightening its belt.

People can counter the BBC’s arrogance - by cancelling their licence fee.

Remember, you do not need to pay £159 a year to own a TV, tablet, PC, mobile etc – provided you watch or record NO live broadcasts or I-Player.
