A MAN in his 50s has died after being hit by a lorry on the M3 near Hook while on the hard shoulder. 

The man from Bracknell, who was driving a blue BMW 320D, was first involved in a collision with a blue Audi Q5 on the northbound carriageway near Junction 5 on Wednesday, November 29.

Police were called to this crash at 1.17pm.

Both drivers pulled over onto the hard shoulder. The BMW driver then got out of his vehicle and was subsequently involved in a crash with a HGV.

His family have been informed.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following the fatal crash.

A police spokesperson said: "Lots of drivers were in the area at the time. So officers are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or any of the vehicles involved in the moments leading up to the incident to come forward.

"Officers would particularly like to speak to anyone with relevant dashcam footage."

M3 northbound was blocked near Hook for several hours following the incident.

During these hours, traffic was diverted off at junction 5 exit and brought back onto the motorway after the junction. There was also a closure in place on the overhead bridge.

The A287 and the A30 at the roundabout were reopened at around 4.30pm while the overbridge closure was lifted at around 6pm.

M3 was finally reopened at around 9.30pm.
