Remembrance Day will be marked in Basingstoke with a number of services and events to pay respect to fallen.

The Royal British Legion is holding services in and around the town, between Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12, to pay respect to those lost in war.

Here is all you need to know about Basingstoke's Remembrance Day services.

Saturday, November 11 (Armistice Day)

Basingstoke and Overton

On Armistice Day, Saturday, November 11, there will be a two-minute silence at the War Memorial at 11am.

The Mayor will lay a wreath at the war memorial, as part of a short 15-minute ceremony.

There will no parking available on the Civic campus, the council advice is to use town centre car parks.

Old Basing

The Old Basing Royal British Legion Band will be playing at the Malls on Saturday, November 11.

The band will perform well-known tunes followed by the last post at 11am, with a two-minute silence afterwards.

The performance will begin at 10.30am, and finish at 11.30am.

Sunday, November 12 (Remembrance Day)

Basingstoke and Overton

On Remembrance Day, Sunday, November 12, the main Remembrance ceremony will take place at 11am.

Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr David Leeks, will lay a wreath at the War Memorial.

The Remembrance Sunday event will begin with a parade from Market Place, through the top of the town to the War Memorial.

A soldier silhouette is located in the grass outside the Goldings building, near the War Memorial, where people can place their own poppy crosses in remembrance of relatives or friends.

These will be available on the day.

Following the service, the Deputy Lieutenant and Mayor will take the salute from the parade in London Street, which will continue to march through the top of the town back to Market Place, where the parade will be dismissed.

Hook

Hook Benefice will be holding acts of Remembrance.

The day of Remembrance in Hook will begin at 8.30am with Holy Communion with Remembrance at Mattingley Church.

At 9am, an Outdoor act of Remembrance will take place at the War Memorial.

A short Communion will be held at St John's, followed by a walk to the War Memorial for the outdoor act of Remembrance.

At 10.50am a Remembrance service will be held at Rotherwick Church with an act of Remembrance at Mattingley Bus Shelter taking place at 12.15pm.

In the evening, a Said Holy Communion with Remembering will take place at St John's and at 6.30 Evensong with Remembering will take place at St Michael, Heckfield.

Oakley

Oakley is hosting a Remembrance Sunday Service in the St Johns Garden of Remembrance on Sunday, November 12 at 10.45am. 

 

Road Closures

On Sunday, November 12, a temporary road closure will be put in place outside the Civic Offices during the morning, and traffic will also be stopped in New Road at 11am for the two minute silence.
