A BELOVED bakery in Old Basing has found a temporary solution to the longstanding parking issues that have affected the neighbourhood.

The Street Bakeshop has partnered with The Crown pub in Old Basing to provide additional parking options for customers during its operating hours after a string of concerns from The Street residents and discussions with the community.

The Street Bakeshop, which has become renowned for its delightful pastries and bread, celebrated its third anniversary this year.

However, its rapid growth and success inadvertently led to a parking nightmare for those living nearby.

The main problem that residents faced was the scarcity of parking spots due to bakery customers often blocking driveways and impeding visibility on the narrow road.

This situation resulted in considerable frustration among residents, especially those with disabilities, who found it challenging to leave their homes.

Carers and nurses also had difficulty parking near their patients, creating additional inconveniences.

But, in a development that promises to bring relief to residents, The Street Bakeshop announced a new partnership with The Crown pub, run by Ian Cresswell and his wife Nikii.

The partnership allows bakeshop customers to park at The Crown pub during bakeshop opening hours, providing much-needed relief for the parking-strapped area.

The Street Bakeshop posted on social media: "Massive thanks to Ian and Nikii who have offered Bakeshop customers to park at The Crown pub during Bakeshop opening hours.

"This.is.big! Thank you Ian and Nikii!!!

"Parking signs are going up soon. In the meantime, please do not park to the front of The Crown on Thursdays when the Pub receives deliveries, and limit afternoon parking to one hour.

"At the same time, a reminder to park considerately when you visit the Bakeshop, to respect our neighbours, to not park too close to any driveways and to not turn in any driveways. Thanks guys."

The Street Bakeshop has been contacted for a comment.

Mike Sant, one of the residents who had previously raised concerns about the parking struggles, said he is hopeful about the new arrangement.

He said: "This is a step in the right direction. Any effort to ease the roadblock is a very good thing. I hope the Bakeshop customers make use of the arrangement and help make the road less congested."
