HERE are some great places to visit in and around Basingstoke this half term.

Time has flown by and half term is already just around the corner, we know that it can be pretty difficult to decide what to do to entertain the kids this time of year, so let us help you out.

There are a number of spooky events in and around Basingstoke this autumn, from ghost tours to arts and crafts.

Halloween half term will run from Monday, October 23 to Friday, October 27, giving you a week to enjoy these fun activities.

Here is a list of five activities in and around the town to enjoy this Halloween half term:

1. Milestones Museum

One of the all-time classic days out in the town, Milestones never disappoints.

This half term, the museum is hosting a Halloween trail, where visitors can "spot who’s haunting the museum's buildings".

With "eerie effects and traditional Halloween decorations",  take a wicked wander down the cobbled streets of Milestones, the event runs from Saturday, October 21 to Sunday, October 29.

Visitors are encouraged to "spook" staff by coming in their most ghoulish costumes.

2. Egg hunt and Dragon's Lair in Portchester Square

Festival Place will be transformed into a magical Dragon's Lair this half term.

Visitors can "gather around the campfire and hear tales of wonder", and help the 'Fabulators' create "fables anew – all about the famous Dragons of Porchester Square".

Children can help "amazing performers concoct stories" before crafting a "dragon memento" to take home.

Kids can also collect a map from the Customer Lounge in Festival Place, and take part in an egg hunt with a chance to win a Festival Place gift card.

The dragon egg hunt will take place from Saturday, October 21 to Tuesday, October 31, while the Dragon's Lair will be open between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, October 27 to Sunday, October 28.

3. Witch’s Halloween recipe trail at The Vyne

What could be more fun for Halloween than making potions with Witches?

The gardens at The Vyne are full of "mysterious and bizarre" ingredients that children must hunt for to "complete the witch's potion".

Taking place from Saturday, October 21 to Sunday, October 29, between 10am and 4pm, and on Monday, October 30 to Sunday, Novermber 5 from 10am to 3pm, children will be rewarded for completing this spooky activity trail with a "sweetie prize".

4. Basing House Ghost Walks

"Be prepared to be spooked" at one of Basing House's ghost tours this Halloween.

This scary, and educational event will allow children to find out more about the "wicked history of the site, from the Bloody Barn to the Tudor tunnel".

The historic house, which was turned into ruins during the English Civil War, is holding Ghost Walks from Friday, October 26 to Sunday, October 28.

5. Whitchurch Silk Mill

The Silk Mill in Whitchurch is hosting a variety of Autumn half-term activities from Tuesday, October 24 to Thursday, October 26, between 11am and 3pm.

Activities include making a pine cone owl or spider, weaving a mini autumn or Halloween scene and weaving a pumpkin basket.
