A FORMER QMC student has built an app to allow drivers of Teslas to easily view, store and share dashcam footage.

Ryan Bourne, 25 from Basingstoke, has been building apps and games for a number of years, working as a freelance games developer during school and through his GCSEs at Aldworth School.

Ryan attended Queen Marys College between 2014 and 2016, studying computing, maths and geography. Despite success through his college experience and an unconditional offer to study game development at university, Ryan decided against continuing in education and instead went into the workplace.

He moved to Ipswich for a year, moving back to Basingstoke in 2017, working at RingGo for a number of months before joining 3 Sided Cube for two years - an internationally renowned tech-for-good agency.

In 2019, Ryan set up Peslo, a mobile software and strategy consultancy which he has been running full-time ever since, and has been living in Aldermaston with his partner since 2021.

Ryan's most recent idea is Perception, an app for iPhone, iPad and Mac that allows Tesla drivers to view, store, and share their dashcam events.

Ryan initially built the app for himself after an attempted 'crash-for-cash'.

Ryan avoided the attempt and when he got home he attempted to review the footage on the in-car viewer provided by Tesla. Tesla vehicles typically have eight external cameras, with four of these cameras used to record dashcam footage while driving, and 'sentry' footage whilst the car is parked to deter break-ins or vandalism.

Ryan realised the in-car viewer was limited, but rather than wait for Tesla to fix the issue themselves, he decided to create an app himself. Ryan started with a basic viewer, which soon turned into an app that lets you view, store and share events.

The app also works out where the incident happened in the video, making it easy to jump straight to the needed footage, and also displays the location and other details from the event.

Perception is available to download at download.perception.vision and is available on either a monthly (£1.99) or yearly (£19.99) subscription or as an outright purchase (£59.99).

Ryan said: “Over the past few years, I’ve been privileged to work with many impactful and purposeful clients - it was my dream at school and college to run my own consulting company, and now I get to live that dream, building apps that change the world and bringing my own ideas to life.

"I’m excited for what the future holds for my businesses and I look forward to generating more positive impact to improve our world, one app at a time. Life is too short for anything else.”
