The Basingstoke branch of the Women’s Equality Party (WEP) recently held an event for local men to discuss how they are impacted by gender inequality.

The free event was held in the garden at The Holly Blue pub on Sunday, August 6, and gave men the chance to discuss how they have been impacted by gender inequality.

Leader of WEP Basingstoke’s Branch and Hatch Warren and Beggarwood election candidate, Stacy Hart, said: “Our party tagline is Equality Is Better For Everyone. This isn’t just a catchy motto, we say it because it’s true.

"Our party started on the basis that gender equality more broadly means politics that represent everyone, more inclusive policies, and a society that’s at ease with itself where everyone can fulfil their potential.

"It’s clear that looking at local and national policy through the lens of equality benefits both men and women."

The event offered attendees the opportunity to hear from a number of guest speakers, before attendees were invited to share their own thoughts and experiences on topics from health to childcare, to the economic and societal happiness benefit that equality brings.

Stacy added: “The Women’s Equality Party is committed to fighting for a better society for the benefit of everyone, regardless of gender, and everyone is welcome.

"We thank everyone who attended our men’s event to share their experiences and especially Matthew Holman, the founding owner of Simpila Mental Health, and the Basingstoke Hygiene Bank for their presentations.”
