RESIDENTS of Basingstoke can nominate someone they think is deserving of recognition to win a special award.

The Rotary Club of Basingstoke's President's Recognition Awards is designed to show appreciation to members of the community who have been spotted as having gone over and beyond in their chosen line of duty, to make an impact on the lives of people in the town.

The club is inviting nominations for the next series of award ceremonies planned for the next few months, designed to recognise, celebrate and identify the good causes and selfless actions of individuals in Basingstoke.

Introduced earlier this year by current president Tunde Adelakun, the RCB President’s Recognition Awards is a unique award scheme, where any and every member of the public is eligible to nominate an awardee, from which the leadership team of the Basingstoke Rotary Club will then select and give the award to.Basingstoke Gazette: President's Recognition AwardPresident's Recognition Award (Image: Basingstoke Rotary)

There is also active input from members of the wider society - representatives of Basingstoke Council, the media, Basingstoke Voluntary Action and BCoT are all involved in this scheme.

Tunde said: "Rotary is always known for benevolence and charity, which is great.

"But we also want to be known as a Club that appreciates people who make our community tick.

"We have so many unsung heroes in Basingstoke - social workers, in the health service, youth charities, sports coaches and mentors - who do not have to be who they are, but decide to be, because they want to make a difference.

"And I am determined to unearth these people and celebrate them publicly. I am glad and grateful that members of my club accepted and share my vision."Basingstoke Gazette: 'Tunde Adelakun'Tunde Adelakun (Image: Matt Rooks-Taylor)

The last winners of the award were Steve and Julie Rebbettes, who donated their caravan to give a holiday to a disadvantaged family, and gave that family an "unforgettable experience".

The next ceremony is scheduled to be held later this month (August), and more details of exact dates and venue will be shared widely in due course.Basingstoke Gazette: President's Recognition AwardPresident's Recognition Award (Image: Basingstoke Rotary)

Nominations can be sent to BasingstokeRotaryAwards@mail.com

Tunde added: "Take a look around you, there are people from the NHS, people in care homes, small business owners and others who have done something selflessly that has touched lives.

"Bring them to us, and at the Rotary Club of Basingstoke, we will celebrate them.

"We are about people, humanity and kindness and peace the world over….and these awards reflect just that."
