A FRUSTRATED resident is on a crusade against a supermarket after spotting a number of trolleys left discarded.

Steve Trumm has been staying in the Beggarwood area and has become annoyed about the number of trolleys that have been taken away from the Sainsbury's in Kempshott and dumped in hedges and verges.

The 61-year-old said he has seen numerous trolleys 'scattered about the place'.

Steve said he had tried to contact the store to arrange for the trolleys to be collected, but found it difficult to find a contact number. He claims that when he finally managed to get through to a member of staff, he was assured that the issue would be sorted.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Despite this, he says, the trolleys have still not been collected - blighting the area - and Steve is now calling for action to be taken.

Steve said: "It's such a shame that clearly the store has no care for their trolleys, which is in effect an asset. Instead, they've just been left lying around the place, making a lovely area look untidy and uncared for.

"It can't be that difficult to arrange the collection of a couple of trolleys, surely? It's in Sainsbury's best interest to come and collect them. That way, they have all their trolleys and they can be used for the intended purpose, as opposed to being a massive eyesore for residents in the area."

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: "We have measures in place to help keep our trolleys in our stores where they belong.”

Sainsbury's did not confirm whether the abandoned trolleys would be collected.
