BASINGSTOKE residents have been left shaken and concerned about their safety following a stabbing that occurred in the early hours.

As news of the incident spread on Tuesday, July 18, residents near Queen Mary Avenue expressed distress and anxiety, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and security measures within their peaceful neighbourhoods.

According to police, a man in his 20s suffered multiple stab wounds to his legs and was taken to hospital.

As part of the investigation, a 26-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, both from Basingstoke, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

In the wake of the incident, the local community voiced their concerns over the unsettling news.

One pensioner, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed their distress and said: "I hope the guy in the hospital is safe, and those responsible face the law. It's quite distressing to hear such news here in Basingstoke. It creates anxiety in peaceful neighbourhoods like ours."

Another resident, a woman who spoke to our reporter at the scene, lamented that such incidents were becoming the norm. She expressed her sadness and concern, reflecting the collective sentiment within the community.

A male resident who resides in the area also shared his experience and said: "I did hear a lot of noise last night.

"Hearing about this wasn't nice because you don't want to see this sort of thing on your doorstep."

Police have dispatched officers to the scene, and the affected area has been cordoned off between Vine Road and Arlott Drive.
