COMPETITORS and residents braved the rain as Overton Wheelbarrow Race returned on Friday, July 14.

The race featured dozens of competitors dressed in an array of impressive and entertaining costumes to take part in the annual event.

Costumes and wheelbarrows were inspired by a range of films, TV programmes, singers and even a village icon.

The costumes included Deal or No Deal boxes, Tina Turner, Super Mario, Toy Story, and even Overton’s much-loved peacock.

During the race competitors race or walk to the various pubs in Overton and enjoy a half pint of beer, before making their way to Overton Recreation Centre.

On Friday, there was a DJ, bar and food van available for race attendees and competitors to enjoy.

On Saturday, July 15, the popular Overton Rocks returns, with bands performing at St Mary’s Hall. The event raises money for Overton Football Club.
