THOUSANDS of cyclists will be zooming through Oakley this weekend, as the UK South Ride is set to take place.

The huge cycling event, held by Chase The Sun, is due to take place on Saturday, June 24.

Cyclists will participate in a route spanning over 200 miles, which will begin in the Thames estuary.

The route bi-sects south London, bridging the Thames onto Bradley Wiggin’s Olympic time trial route, before "seeking green country lanes, quaint villages and "the lush Vale of Pewsey, climbing the Mendip hills, descending breathtaking Cheddar gorge, finally arriving on the seafront at Weston-Super-Mare."

The route is a near-perfect horizontal ride, right across the south, beginning at sunrise - 4.41am, and ending at sunset - 21.33pm.

The 205-mile course has an elevation of 3,000 metres, and the event is completely sold out.

Participants will receive hotel accommodation, breakfast, dinner and celebration drinks.

Be sure to look out for the cyclists in Oakley.
