HOLDERS Basingstoke and North Hants will face their bitter local rivals Hook and Newnham Basics A in the first semi-final of the Guy Jewell Cup on Tuesday July 4, writes Graham Merry.

Hook will be out for revenge after losing to the Bountymen in last season’s final, having won the competition the year before.

In the other semi-final scheduled for Monday July 10, Old Basing will take on either Rotherfield Park or East Woodhay.

The quarter-final draw for the Cyril Thompson Trophy has also been made and the four games are as follows: Chawton v Aldermaston Rugby or Ashford Hill (Monday July 17), Yateley v St Mary’s or Oakley B (Monday July 24), Hook and Newnham Basics B v BNHCC Development XI or Kingsclere (Tuesday July 25) and Overton v Stratfield Turgis and Hartley Wespall (Monday July 31).

In the latest Trophy games Overton beat Herriard by 25 runs after they scored 204-7.

Charlie Gray 59, Kev Barlow 50, Ian Clarke 39 were amongst the runs, while Martin Apperley 3-33 and Sowmi Srini took 2-44 were the chief wicket takers.

Herriard were bowled out for 179, despite Andrew Butler hitting 53 and Rahul Uplekar 34.

Charlie Bowden 4-21did most of the damage with the ball for Overton and was well supported by A Galvin 2-27.

Stratfield Turgis and Hartley Wespall cruised to a nine wicket win over Rotherwick ITW.

Rotherwick were only able to make 97-7 from their 20 overs thanks to Matt Gasser 32, John Holder 31, while Venkat 2-9 and Shashanke Agarwal 2-13 starred with the ball.

Gary Cockcroft with an unbeaten 50 steered Stratfield Turgis to victory and fellow opener Adam Goss scored 25.

Next week on Monday (June 26) in the Cyril Thompson Trophy, Aldermaston Rugby take on Ashford Hill.
