Did you see this weekend's stunning Strawberry Moon?

People across the UK were treated to a spectacular sight as June's full moon appeared.

It was at its brightest in the early hours of Sunday morning, and was still an impressive spectacle on Sunday night, as shown in the above photo. Basingstoke Gazette:

As the moon beamed over Basingstoke, Basingstoke Gazette Camera Club photographer Anthony Hutchinson captured these special photos.

What is a Strawberry Moon?

The Strawberry Moon is significant as it marks the changing season and is the first full moon of June.Basingstoke Gazette:

The term came from Native American culture which used the phrase to define the time of year strawberries are harvested.Basingstoke Gazette:

It's also called the Honey Moon, Rose Moon and Mead Moon.

If you missed this month's Strawberry Moon, July will welcome the Buck Moon.

This is the time when a buck, a male deer, grows its full antlers. This moon is also called Thunder Moon after the summer thunderstorms.
