A Basingstoke community choir is set to perform on one of the biggest Hampshire stages at the end of the month.

Sing Now, which has approximately 60 singers in Basingstoke, is taking part in One Sound: Musicals at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton on May 28.

The performance is a collaboration between three choirs: Love Soul Choir, Sing Now Choir, and Sound Pop Academy. It will feature more than 400 singers who will be performing songs from musicals including Fame, Matilda, Mary Poppins and Mama Mia.

One Sound is produced by Sing Now founder, Jack White and his friend, Dan Cooper, who founded Love Soul in 2008.

The show started back in 2016 and has sold out every year since. The 2023 show is the first time One Sound is returning after the coronavirus pandemic.

Sing Now was founded eight years ago by Mr White, 30, and has 270 members across three groups in Basingstoke, Southampton and Fareham.

Speaking about the return to the Southampton stage, Mr White said: "It is scary and exciting all at the same time. We were so lucky to perform just days before the first national lockdown in 2020, but we’ve definitely missed our big collaboration show over the past 3 years.

"It will be great to be back Mayflower’s stage and have the support from the audience members too."

Mr White continued: "There will be something for everyone because the show features music from The Sound of Music right up to Billie Eilish.

"Even if you aren’t a fan of musicals, the choirs still showcase the songs they have been learning over the past year, so lots of good pop and soul music too."

He added: "We love performing at local community events, we’ll be singing at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke later this year, but they are often outside and unpredictable because of the weather.

"One Sound is such a great opportunity for friends and family to come along and see the choirs in a wonderful venue as part of a professional production, I guess, it’s something a bit special."

A few tickets are still available for One Sound: Musicals at the Mayflower Theatre on May 28. More information can be found online at mayflower.org.uk/whats-on/one-sound-2023/
