A YOUTH theatre in Basingstoke is looking for enthusiastic children aged between 11 and 18 to join its 2023 production of Anything Goes.

BAOS Limelight is getting set to board the SS American with a production of Anything Goes. Auditions for the production will be held on Saturday, June 3, between 10am and 4pm.

Anything Goes is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. With a hilarious script by PG Wodehouse and Guy Bolton, the story involves madcap antics, heartwarming romance, and spectacular dance routines.

The SS American is sailing between New York and England with comically colourful passengers including Reno Sweeney, a nightclub singer and former evangelist, and her pal Billy Crocker, a young Wall Street broker, who has snuck on board to try to win the favour of his beloved Hope Harcourt, who is unfortunately engaged to another passenger, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Also on board is a second-rate con man named Moonface Martin, aka “Public Enemy #13”. Song, dance, terrible disguises and farcical antics ensue as Reno and Moonface try to help Billy win the love of his life.

The version of Anything Goes being presented has been revised to exclude offensive language, often in regard to race, that was present in earlier versions.

Stephanie Webb, who founded Limelight, said: "We're really excited to be able to bring this updated version of Anything Goes to the community. We do one major production every year and are looking for eager young people to come and audition for the show. We look forward to seeing you there!"

The dates of the show will be from October 19 to October 21, at Queen Mary's Hall in Basingstoke.
