A CARE service in Basingstoke which provides care for people in their own homes has been told it needs to improve following an inspection.

Maycare Limited, a family-run business at Vickers Business Centre, in Priestley Road, was visited by the Care Quality Commission in January.

A report published in April said it 'requires improvement' overall.

However bosses at the firm said they have already made changes in order to improve.

Inspectors visited to follow up on action it was told to make at its last inspection in 2022.

At the time of the inspection, 42 people were receiving personal care and support in their own homes.

The CQC found that even though the provider had made "some improvements", it was not assured people were "consistently" receiving care from two care staff.

The CQC report said: "We were not assured people always received the care and support they needed in ways which met their assessed needs and preferences."

However, CQC inspectors did note that the provider has "improved the way they recruited new staff" and there was mainly positive feedback from people and their relatives who use the service.

In the categories 'safe' and 'well-led' the service was graded as 'requires improvement'.

Categories 'effective', 'caring' and 'responsive' the care service was given a 'good' rating.

Nicola Hurley, registered manager at Maycare Limited, said they were graded 'requires improvement' in two of the categories due to "implementing a new auditing and competency processes since the last inspection."

She said: "These processes haven't had enough time to be embedded before the inspection in January.

"Since the inspection, we have implemented numerous of ongoing audits to monitor care and staff performance.

"I recruited a new care manager, although she has only been in the post a short while, she has implemented lots of positive changes and systems throughout the business. Ensuring that care is delivered to a high standard and that the support of two carers takes place when necessary.

"We are also carrying out more frequent client care reviews and staff competency spot checks.

"Our clients mean everything to us here at Maycare Limited, it’s the whole reason why we started a domiciliary care service back in 2010.

"We aim to go above and beyond for the people we care for and the staff that work for us."
