Basingstoke residents, community groups, schools and organisations are invited to nominate young people who have made a difference in their community for a Mayor’s Celebration of Basingstoke Youth Award.

The awards will recognise the significant achievements of people under the age of 18 who have either worked with their local community, supported vulnerable people, or showed initiative or organisational skills.

Traditionally, the Mayor’s Youth Award has been presented to just one individual, but this year The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Paul Miller has decided that a ‘Celebration of Basingstoke Youth’ will be awarded to one representative from each school and youth organisation.

Nomination forms can be obtained by emailing MayoralCoordinator@basingstoke.gov.uk and must be submitted by midnight on Friday 24 March 2023. The winners will be notified in early May with a certificate and letter of recognition sent to the school or organisation who nominated them.

Cllr Paul Miller said: “During my mayoral year, the Mayoress and I have attended many engagements and have been lucky to meet some amazing young people, doing great things in their communities.

"This is wonderful to see but has made our job of choosing a recipient for the Mayor’s Youth Award especially difficult. Therefore, this year we have decided to do things slightly differently and ask for schools and community groups to nominate young people to us.

“If you know a young person who has engaged with, or has made a difference to, your local community please nominate them for an award.”

Nominations should be emailed to mayoralcoordinator@basingstoke.gov.uk, or posted to Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Civic Offices, London Road, Basingstoke RG21 4AH.
