A record crowd at Barlows Park saw Combined Counties South side Tadley-Calleva hold a development squad from Premier League, AFC Bournemouth, to a nil-nil draw before playing out an enthralling penalty shootout to which the hosts eventually lost 7-6.

Tadley welcomed 652 spectators to Barlows Park for the Hampshire Senior Cup third round tie in which an upset would have seen the hosts welcome Portsmouth FC in the next round.

Tadley started the brighter and after just three minues had the first chance of the match. Winger Jamie Johnston beat his man over on the left hand side and put in a cross which was met by the head of Ben Wright. Wright's header went agonisily wide of the post and Tadley showed their intent for the evening.

Chances kept coming from the home side with both Scott Kinge and Ben Wright coming close for the hosts.

Bournemouth arguably had the best chance of the half just before the half-time whistle. Forward Pollock picked up a loose ball just inside the Tadley half and charged down on goal. He managed to round Atkinson in the Tadley net but his touch took him too wide and Pollock was unable to convert the chance.

Bournemouth came out second half looking to control the tempo of the tie and came close to opening the scoring when again Pollock rounded the goalkeeper. Much like the chance at the end of the first half, he talk the ball too wide and fired into the side netting.

Tadley grew back into the game and just moments after Pollock had put the ball wide, a free-kick from Ben Wright rattled off the bar in front of the home crowd.

The closest either side had come to opening the scoring and this propelled Tadley into another gear.

They kept pushing forward looking to nick a goal and with twenty minutes to go, a chance from centre-half Louis Chambers looked destined for the back of the net. The ball was poked past the helpless goalkeeper but captain Ben Greenwood was on hand to clear well off the line and keep the game level.

After 90 minutes of play, the two sides could not be separated, meaning penalties would decide the fate of the fixture.

After 10 penalties from both teams, including spot kicks from both goalkeepers, the visitors finally came through as victors.

Ben Wright, Jordan Goater, Kieran Rodgers and Kalum Cousins scored Tadley's opening four penalties while the returning Alfie Saunders saw his effort saved. Successful penalties from skipper Walsh and Louis Chambers were followed by three penalty misses.

Bournemouth's Kinsey-Williams kept his nerve and was rewarded with a slice of luck as his penalty cannoned off the bar and only just over the line.

Tadley were arguably the better side over 90 minutes and will feel that the game was there to be won.

A proud performance from all involved.
