AROUND 200 vehicles attended a car meet at Basingstoke's leisure park over the weekend.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed to the Gazette that officers were called to the car meet on Sunday, February 12.

A spokesperson said: "At 7.49pm on Sunday, 12 February we were made aware of an unauthorised car meet taking place at the leisure park in Basingstoke involving around 200 vehicles. Officers attended and the group dispersed. No criminal offences were seen by officers and no arrests were made.

"We take all reports of anti-social use of vehicles seriously and continue to proactively monitor the information which helps us build a bigger intelligence picture around what is happening and where enabling us to target our resources."

The spokesperson also said that police are working "closely with partners and businesses" to help tackle the issues surrounding car meets. This work includes looking at "target hardening measures" to help deter and disrupt groups of people who cause this type of anti-social behaviour, such as the introduction of ANPR cameras, CCTV, barriers, boulders, lighting, parking restrictions and security guard patrols.
