TWO LloydsPharmacy branches inside Sainsbury’s stores in Basingstoke and Tadley are set to close this year.

LloydsPharmacy announced it is closing all of its 237 branches, two of which are in Basingstoke and Deane – one at Sainsbury’s in Hatch Warren and the other at the supermarket in Tadley.

It is not yet known if another pharmacy provider will take over the branches and a spokesperson for LLoydsPharmacy said it is “exploring options for each individual branch”.

They added: “This means the plan for each pharmacy, and how colleagues are potentially affected, will vary on branch-by-branch basis. We are currently working with all potentially affected colleagues and have underlined our commitment to support them through the process.”

LloydsPharmacy said it had taken the decision to close all of its Sainsbury’s branches after carrying out a “strategic review of its operations in response to changing market conditions”.

The supermarket branches will close throughout 2023, however a timeline and final plans have not been announced.

Chief executive officer at LloydsPharmacy, Kevin Birch, said: “This decision has not been an easy one and we understand that our patients and customers may have questions about how the changes will affect them.

"We would like to thank them for their continued support and assure them that we are committed to providing a smooth transition over the coming months.

He added: “I am very grateful to all our colleagues for their dedication to our patients, customers and communities.”

LloydsPharmacy has published information on its website for customers affected by the closures.

Anyone whose prescriptions are sent to a LloydsPharmacy inside Sainsbury’s will need to nominate a new pharmacy to dispense medications.
