MYSTERY surrounds why a new cake shop in Basingstoke is still not open.

Caker Street was meant to open in Church Street, at the Top of Town, in April 2022.

A member of staff from the company’s sales team told the Gazette in October 2022 that the shop was due to open in the first week of November, but provided no further information as to why there had been a delay.

However, two months later and it remains shut.

The Gazette called the number provided on the window of the shop, and were told by the person who answered that the shop “should be ready very soon” but he added: “I don’t have a definite answer.”

Asked why there had been a nine-month delay, he said: “I’m not in a position to say, I’m not the right person.”

We asked to speak with the owners but have so far been unable to contact them.

Caker Street is described on its website as a “one-stop cake shop for all your occasions”.

It launched in 2015 as an online cake shop before opening its first kiosk in Westfield Mall, London, in March 2022.

The newspaper covering the windows of the Basingstoke branch was taken down last year, and the shop appears to have been fitted inside ready for the opening.

The business makes cakes for any occasion and also offers DIY cakes and cupcakes at its London outlet.
