A POSTMASTER, a charity fundraiser and a deputy chief Health Education officer are among the men and women in and around Basingstoke and Andover recognised in the New Year’s Honours List.

The New Year’s Honours list marks the achievements and services from people across the UK. It is a time when community champions, who go the extra mile often putting others' needs before their own, can be recognised on a national level.

Those who make it to the list come from all walks of life, standing out in their particular field for their continued efforts to make a real difference.

We have put together a list of all those from the Basingstoke and Andover areas.

MBE

The MBE, or Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, is awarded by the monarch on behalf of the government to recognise those who have had an outstanding achievement or given service to the community which has had a long-term, significant impact.

This year, there was one recipient from Hartley Wintney near Basingstoke.

Hamish Murray Andrew Elvidge, who is the founder and lately chair of The Support After Suicide Partnership, has been given the award for his services to mental health.

Meanwhile Professor Beverley Elizabeth Harden from Stockbridge near Andover is the deputy chief allied health professions officer for Health Education England. She has been awarded the MBE for her services to healthcare.

CBE

Meanwhile, John Caulcutt, who lives in Sutton Scotney in Hampshire has been awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to charity and to philanthropy.

BEM

Leslie Francis, Postmistress for Enham Alamein in Andover is a medallists of the Order of the British Empire (BEM).

Leslie Francis, Postmistress for Enham Alamein, has received New Year’s Honour recognition for providing services to her historic Hampshire community with a British Empire Medal.

In World War II many of the injured from the famous Battle of El Alamein were brought back to the UK. Many were cared for at a recovery centre in the village of Lower Enham, which was re-named because of its special war-time ties.

Enham Trust is a leading disability charity supporting people to transition towards independent living. Enham Alamein village remains a centre for charity work and supporting others.

KPM

The King's Police Medal is awarded to police in the United Kingdom for gallantry or distinguished service. It was also formerly awarded within the wider British Empire, including Commonwealth countries, most of which now have their own honours systems

A former Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary Police Inspector will receive the King's Police Medal in the new monarch's first New Year's Honours List.

Kelvin Shipp devoted more than 40 years of his life to public service, first joining the force as a Special Constable in November 1981 and then as a full-time regular serving officer in June 1991.

Kings fire service medal

The King's Fire Service Medal, introduced in 1954, is awarded to members of the fire services in the United Kingdom for distinguished service or gallantry.

Derek James the deputy chief fire officer for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has been given the award.
