Dear Editor,
As councillor for Basingstoke, it has come to my attention that the National Express are not running direct coaches from Basingstoke to Heathrow; this is causing serious inconvenience to our residents. It used to be a direct service previously, therefore it was quicker and economical too.
Recent rail strikes have exacerbated the situation, as Basingstoke does not have enough taxis to meet the demand. This is causing severe inconvenience to holiday goers during the festive season.
The drop off charge introduced at Heathrow has contributed to the cost of taxis, as they have been passing the costs to the people. During this cost-of-living crisis - where every pound helps- it would be very helpful if National Express would resume their services.
Basingstoke is easily accessible from the M3; we have a good bus station in our town centre – just a few mins away from Junction 6 of M3. Therefore, it makes sense to run this service for the residents of Basingstoke. I hope it will make business sense as well. As of my knowledge National Express has coach service to Heathrow from rest of the county. All they need to do is to introduce a stop at Basingstoke for their long journeys. Considering this, I would like to request National Express to kindly resume their services from Basingstoke to Heathrow.
Cllr Arun Mummalaneni
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council
