POLICE are reassuring residents that they continue to proactively monitor reports of car meets in Basingstoke.

The news comes following an incident that took place on Sunday, November 20. Hampshire Constabulary were called at 7.15pm to a report that a number of vehicles had gathered at the Asda car park on Brighton Way.

Officers responded by attending the scene but the majority of the cars had left.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "The local neighbourhood policing team will review incidents and reports of anti-social or dangerous driving linked to unauthorised car meets and where there is evidence of offences, we will take further action.

"We would like to reassure local residents that we continue to proactively monitor information and intelligence, and work closely with partners and landowners.

"Officers would like to remind organisers of events that they must seek the permission of the landowner and the district or city council."
