PERMISSION has been rejected for up to two homes to be built in Headley due to concerns over the location.

The application was submitted by Mr P Wakelyn to allow for the permission to build a minimum of one and a maximum of two homes on land adjacent to the A339 Headley on Newbury Road.

Speaking on behalf of the applicant Mrs B Taylor said: “The issues for consideration are whether this location is suitable for up to two residential dwellings.

“We are of the opinion that the application is policy complaint and is a small-scale residential development outside the settlement boundary. We say there is a local agreed need because of the lack of housing supply and also it is not in an isolated location.”

Councillors on the Basingstoke and Deane development control committee rejected the application on Wednesday, November 9.

Cllr Onnalee Cubitt raised concerns about why the land is appropriate for the two homes to be built with “extraordinary access”.

In response, a council officer said he believes it is a “sustainable location” with a bus stop nearby with it sitting neatly with the landscape and character of the area.

Other councillors were worried that the road is already dangerous so building more homes could make it worse.

Cllr Ken Rhatigan said: "I am happy to move this for rejection based on the sitting because it is in the open countryside and outside the settlement boundary which is not acceptable."
