SEVEN homes have been given approval to be built after developers returned with another plan following the refusal of its first application.

The application was submitted by London Street Properties to allow the demolition of the existing building and the erection of seven homes on Wildwood Farm Newnham Lane in Old Basing.

The developer previously submitted an application for nine homes on the land, which was refused.

On Wednesday, November 9 councillors on the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council development control committee approved plans.

Speaking on behalf of the applicant Nicholas Cobbold said: “There are no technical objections and that was a conclusion after a long debate. The refusal was solely on visual and landscape impact on the development.

“This is a seven-year scheme which is a scaled-back development on the previously developed land.

“In my mind, I have no doubt that this is a better scheme reducing the overall impact of the development.”

Cllr Kate Tuck also spoke in the meeting and aired her concerns

She added: “I acknowledge that this application has made some effort to reach a more appropriate scale and proportion compared to the nine dwelling application and with careful selection of materials that can be improved upon.

“The choice of trees and shrubs around this plot will be important as it will either look like a well-placed extension of the adjacent ancient woodland area to contribute positively to the ecological of the area or a B&Q bargain sale of everything nobody wanted.”
