PLANS to build two five-bedroom homes in Silchester have been approved, despite neighbours' reservations.

An application was submitted by Dariston Land and Development Ltd to allow for two five-bedroom homes to be built, each with a detached double garage and cycle store in Bridles View Byes Lane in Silchester.

Speaking on behalf of the applicant Tony Thorpe said: “The site is easily able to accommodate the two-family dwellings that are now before you. They both have a design and layout that is more in keeping with the local character.

“The owner of a dwelling for the west suggested that garage one surviving plot one might block light to her window.”

He continued: “Given the distance between the two buildings and the overall height of the and depth garage with its roof sloped away from the neighbour there is no demonstrable loss of sunlight, daylight or privacy sufficient to justify the reason for refusal.”

Prior to the meeting the application had received seven comments from members of the public, six of which were objections. Residents raised concerns over traffic, the suitability of the location and noise.

Councillors on the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's development control committee voted unanimously in favour of approving the plans.
