A BASINGSTOKE-based theatre company has successfully managed to secure further funding from Arts Council England.

Proteus Theatre Company will also remain a National Portfolio Organisation of the Arts Council.

Chief executive and artistic director Mary Swan said: “Proteus is proud to remain a National Portfolio Organisation of the Arts Council.

“In such difficult times, to have our artistic work supported in this way is a ringing endorsement of our high-quality national touring work and skills in developing artists and companies in the region.

“We are excited and delighted to be unveiling, in the new year, a programme of radical and vital new work; shining a light on issues at the heart of current debate and continuing to tell the stories of those disenfranchised by society.

“We are also thrilled to be able to continue to build and support the development of Basingstoke as a national and regional hub for the UK's most exciting artists and companies.”

This continued funding from the Arts Council will allow the company to continue growing the life-changing work that it produces in Basingstoke.

Originally formed in 1981, the company has a long history of producing work that serves the local, national and international community.
