A SMALL fire within the airflow system of a shopping centre in Basingstoke caused panic on Thursday night.
Firefighters were called to report of a fire at Festival Place in Basingstoke just after 10pm on Thursday, November 10.
Upon arrival, the crews found that the fire was within the airflow system.
They used an electric fan to clear the smoke from the system.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "
"We were called at around 10.20pm last night and found a small fire involving an air handling unit.
"The unit was isolated by an on-site engineer and our crews used a ventilation fan to clear smoke.
"Firefighters began leaving shortly after 23:20, after handing the incident over to staff."
Firefighters from Basingstoke, Hartley Wintney, Tadley and Odiham attended the incident.
