CONSTRUCTION of a state-of-the-art neurological rehabilitation centre has started in Basingstoke.

Clinicians and construction teams took part in an official ground-breaking ceremony for the Inspire Neurocare centre on the Bradley Way site in Basingstoke.

The new centre will provide rehab and long-term care for people with complex needs including those resulting from brain and spinal injuries, as well as neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease.

Featuring therapy and medical consulting rooms, a therapy gym fitted with state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment including robotics, the purpose-built facility will be ideally located to support the nearby Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.

Director of Specialist Services for Inspire Neurocare Michelle Kudhail said that the centre would provide much-needed neurological rehabilitation services for the region.

She said: “There is a significant national demand for specialist neurocare and rehabilitation services and we identified the Basingstoke area as being one of the locations particularly lacking in such provision.

“Sadly, this means that individuals who need specialist services, and the clinical expertise to support the complex needs associated with neurological conditions, are being placed in locations far away from their families and homes.

“Inspire Neurocare Basingstoke will help meet this demand and enable individuals to stay near their families and their support networks, which is so vital to their care and rehabilitation.”

The centre is being built by Lancer Scott for healthcare developer Hamberley Development.

Lancer Scott commercial manager Gary Sollars said: “Lancer Scott and our team are delighted to be involved in the construction of such a prestigious project and develop further their partnership with Hamberley Development.”
