A BASINGSTOKE man has announced his desire to be selected as the Labour party candidate for Basingstoke in the next general election.

David Lawrence, 28, has put his name forward as part of Labour’s Parliamentary Selection process.

The process, which opened on Thursday, October 27, sees members of the Basingstoke Labour Party put their names forward to be voted as the party’s representative in the area during the next General Election.

David said: “I’ve got some local roots in Basingstoke, but also a slightly more national, international perspective as well.

“I’ve been chatting to the constituents of Basingstoke, and I think there’s a lot of concern about the cost of living at the moment and a general sense that a lot of shops have closed in Basingstoke and it’s quite a different place from the place I lived as a child.

“And so, I would love to be the town’s representative and also hopefully play a part in a future Labour government.”
