PASSENGERS on their travels at Basingstoke Railway Station can enjoy a fabulous exhibition of artwork, produced by students from The Vyne School.

Tim Poet, head of art at The Vyne School, said he was “delighted” to have the opportunity to showcase his student’s talent.

Students from Year 8 explored the work of Hundertwasser, to create a fantastic building that towered in the sky.

The students experimented with wax relief backgrounds and collaging structures together separately, before drawing in the details onto their final piece, completing these in various media and materials, from oil pastels to paint.

Other Year 8 students explored the work of Sarah Graham, who creates hyperrealistic paintings of nostalgic sweets. The students took this and, after picking their own favourite sweet brands, proceeded to reproduce them in full colour. It was a celebration of vivid colours and expression that then turned into a giant display within the school corridors.

Also on display were pieces of art created by students taking GCSE art, craft and design at the school. Students were inspired by seeing the world close up, before producing some exciting interpretations in their own artwork of manmade objects, through vibrant and different styles.

One of those involved was Year 10 student Katherin, who portrayed her life through a fantastic, in-depth representation in a jam jar. Katherin said: “I’m happy as well as proud that all the nights spent painting were worth it.”

Another student, Angela said: “I’ve always wanted to have my artwork displayed, and now that it has for people to see I feel really proud and happy.”

Kayci added: “Having my work on display has made my parents really proud, especially my dad because he enjoys art, too. I’m really proud of myself.”

The exhibition will be on display until January, when The Arts Society Basingstoke will exhibit work from Dove House.

Art at the station is supported by The Arts Society Basingstoke, which offers a platform for young artists to exhibit their work. If you would like your work displayed here, please contact info@theartssocietybasingstoke.org.
