A VETERAN army officer who grew up in Basingstoke is planning the next leg in a series of challenges she is completing for charity.

Jen Price, 32, is completing 12 challenges in 12 months to raise money for The Veteran’s Foundation.

Her next challenge, taking place in November, will see the former Royal Artillery Major attempt to cross the English Channel on a paddleboard.

She will be supported by a mandatory safety boat and will be watching the weather forecast intently, hoping for calm seas and a gentle breeze.

The crossing, famous with swimmers, has only been attempted by paddleboard a handful of times.

Jen said: “I am very concerned about whether or not we will get the right weather conditions and really hope I do not get seasick!”

This is just the latest in a series of challenges that Jen has completed

Other challenges she has undertaken this year include a self-supported 1,000-mile cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats and climbing Kilimanjaro.

So far, Jen has raised more than £28,000 for the charity, with particular support from Rouute Technologies, a veteran founded and run green energy company.

She is now just two challenges away from completing her Herculean fundraising effort.

After the paddle, she will attempt to climb Aconcagua in Argentina, which, at nearly 7,000 meters, is the highest mountain outside of the Himalayas and one of the Seven Summits.

On current planning, it will take two to three weeks to climb, with Jen hoping to summit on Christmas Eve.

After seeing colleagues and friends struggle with their mental health, especially after leaving the armed forces, Jen was determined to help those who fight an invisible war.

She explained: “It is rare to go through life without experiencing personal trauma of some sort, whether that has been on the battlefield or in your personal life.

“I also believe that challenging yourself and going on adventures can have a hugely positive impact on your life and is one of the best ways to get better.

“So, if my efforts inspire others to get out there then even better!”
