A GOLF day organised by a Basingstoke-based housebuilding company has raised more than £14,000 for a suicide prevention charity.

Building company Vistry Southern held the fundraiser to help the national charity Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide, which works to promote positive mental health and emotional well-being in young people.

The event took place at Old Thorns Hotel and Resort in Liphook, with Vistry Southern staff joined by subcontractors and supporters for the event.

Twenty-three teams took part in the competition, which took place in good weather, enjoying drinks buggies along the way.

Among the notable moments on the course was the company’s construction director Steve Ott achieving an Albatross – a three under par score.

The evening reception included an auction and raffle with prizes donated by Vistry sub-contractors, hosted on stage by finance director Martyn Flood.

There were also presentations from Papyrus and Vistry Group forklift driver Marcus Nunes-Filho, who spoke about his own personal journey, and how vital the work of charities such as Papyrus is.

He also emphasised the importance of having a supportive management team at work.

Trophies were also awarded, with the overall winners being the private rented sector team.
