A TEENAGER from Basingstoke has added more medals to their success at an international tournament.

Following her success at the School Games last month in Loughborough, Immi Edwards, 15, travelled to Lisbon to compete with a large GB team at the World Laser Run finals.

Despite making a small but costly mistake at the start of the shooting in her individual event, she fought back to get up to fifth among a field of 28 international athletes after a hard-charging first lap.

With an accurate and fast series of shots she then led the race for the next three laps, but got chased down by a teammate in the last 50 metres to win an individual silver and team gold medal.

The mixed relay event saw an excellent series of shoots and runs to give her partner a good lead at the changeover but ultimately, they had to settle for another World silver medal.

Last week Immi competed in Marathon, Greece, in the European Triathle and Laser Run championships.

This was her first international Triathle competition and she was pleased to come home in sixth place, having never attempted a sea swim before.

The mixed relay Laser Run again saw her and her partner finish second. The next day, an outstanding performance as part of a strong GB Laser Run team saw her win her first international gold medal in the Laser Run final.

Immi said: “I was really pleased to become the U17 European Laser Run champion, having just missed out on the gold medal at Lisbon. I am still at the lower end of the age group and am very much looking forward to the 2023 season.”

Her season ends next week as she travels to Madeira for the World Triathle Championships.

Both events saw an impressive return of medals from Basingstoke based Wessex Wyvern Modern Pentathlon Club who once again showed their ability to produce world class performances in all age groups.
