A BASINGSTOKE businesswoman is creating keepsakes for families by using breast milk and DNA materials to make unique jewellery and art.

In light of October being pregnancy and infant loss awareness month, LP Resin Heaven Arts based, in Bramley, is providing support to people grieving by creating memorable keepsakes to keep lost loved ones close by.

Business owner Louise Powell is doing this in the form of handmade DNA inclusion jewellery and memorial art, ranging from rings, pendants, small trinkets and woodwork.

The business idea started as a hobby when Louise realised her love for making jewellery after experimenting with a jewellery-making kit she bought for her daughter's birthday.

After posting her creations on Facebook, her friends showed interest in buying Louise's work, now five years later she is well known in the baby loss and breastfeeding community and has 35,000 followers on the social media platform TikTok.

Louise said: "It took a very long time to perfect my work and have confidence that my jewellery and art was good enough to sell, but I have put in a lot of time and tears into creating LP Resin Heaven Arts.

"A couple of months after starting my business a mother got in touch grieving her loss after an early miscarriage, she didn’t have a scan photo or ashes but wanted something close to her that would hold great meaning. This is when I started experimenting with what else could be included in my work."

Louise' creations can involve many different DNA materials such as breast milk, ashes, hair, teeth, resting gravel, petals, fibres and pregnancy tests.

Any dry materials are preserved in their natural state to go into resin, but with other ingredients such as breast milk, the milk will be preserved as a powder and then put into a resin to be made into any jewellery or handmade art.

When meeting new people and asked what she does for a living, Louise added that it's usually a conversation stopper or conversation starter.

She explained how incredibly blessed she felt to be providing a meaningful service to various families that need something to help with their grieving process.

Alongside this, Lousie also offers support to Basingstoke charity, From Leia With Love, which is a baby loss charity that supports families through stillbirth, miscarriage and neonatal death.
