A BASINGSTOKE man has been given a suspended sentence for having an axe in a public place.

Justin Cassell, of Berwyn Close, had the bladed article in the town on May 11, 2021. On the same day, he also damaged a door and a window belonging to Sovereign Housing worth £500.

The 27-year-old admitted to the offences at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

Cassell was given a four-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. He must also complete up to 15 rehabilitation days.

He was ordered to pay £500 compensation and a £34 victim surcharge.

MAGISTRATES have fined a Basingstoke man who was caught with an offensive weapon.

Jamal Hill, of Beechwood Close, was stopped with a retractable baton in Sherwood Close on June 12, last year.

The 20-year-old was fined £392 and told to pay £85 court costs, along with a £39 victim surcharge.

Forfeiture and destruction of the extendable baton was ordered by magistrates.

A BASINGSTOKE woman has been sent to prison for stealing a bottle of cider.

Tracey Donnelly, of Attwood Close, stole the bottle of Henry Weston Cider, worth £2.20, from Tesco on July 20.

She admitted to the theft during a hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

The 48-year-old was jailed for four weeks due to her “flagrant disregard for people and their property”.

She must also pay £25 court costs and £2.20 compensation.

A MOTORIST who was caught driving while unfit through drugs has been disqualified.

Terrance Whitmore, of Alexandra Road, Farnborough, was stopped behind the wheel of a Citroen C1 on Rectory Road, Hook, on May 11.

The 59-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence during an appearance at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

Whitmore was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £30.

A DRIVER has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after he was caught over the drink-drive limit.

Lee Martinez-Coombs, of Bennett Close, Basingstoke, was stopped on Byfleet Avenue, Old Basing, driving a Citroen Relay Van on August 31.

It was found that he had namely 139 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.

The 48-year-old admitted to drink driving during a hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

Martinez-Coombs was disqualified from driving for 32 months and told to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay a £114 victim surcharge and £50 court costs.

A HOOK man has been made the subject of a community order after he admitted to damaging property.

Christopher Smyth, of Rectory Road, damaged the walls of a property belonging to a woman in Hook on January 10.

He also admitted to assaulting the same woman on August 9. 

The 21-year-old must undergo up to 30 days of rehabilitation.

MAGISTRATES have ordered a 22-year-old to undergo alcohol treatment after he admitted to four offences.

Brandon Bayliss, admitted to assaulting two emergency workers in Overton on July 15 and another in Basingstoke the following day. He also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on August 31.

Bayliss, of Old Woking, Surrey, must complete 40 hours unpaid work and complete a nine-month alcohol treatment programme.

He must also pay £100 compensation, £40 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge, along with up to 30 rehabilitation days.
