The Conservatives have completely lost control of the economy. Thanks to their irresponsible plans to fund tax cuts for the rich by borrowing billions of pounds they have lost their economic credibility and this has now pushed up borrowing for homeowners in Basingstoke which means that mortgages are now rising.
With the BBC recently reporting that the average mortgage payer faces a “Kwarteng Premium” of £960 as a result of the shambolic mini-budget more and more people are having to fork out extra on payments to banks. Thanks to the Conservative Party nearly 26,000 homeowners in Basingstoke face paying an average of £960 more per year because of this decision. That’s a combined total of nearly £250m which could have been spent in our local economy.
The incompetence has well and truly damaged our country. The Conservatives must reverse their economic, discredited and unproven trickle-down strategy and call a General Election so that Labour can repair the damage done.
