A TRIO of Basingstoke and Deane sports centres are offering a free weekend of sports, fun and leisure.

Basingstoke Aquadrome, Tadley Health and Fitness Centre, and Basingstoke Golf Club will be opening their doors to members of the public for free on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9.

This comes after the success of the first Big Open Weekend that the sites held in March 2022, with Basingstoke and Deane Community Leisure Trust (BDCLT), which operates the sites, deciding to offer a range of activities for free at each facility.

Contract manager for BDCLT Alan Elliot said: “Offering free sessions is always going to be popular, but with the cost-of-living crisis hitting so many, now’s a great time to take advantage of our Big Open Weekend.

“We’ve got free family swimming sessions at Tadley, plus free taster swimming lessons for kids aged 5-16.

“Also at Tadley, there’ll be mixed ability Pilates and Zumba classes to try out.

“The Golf Centre are offering people free sessions on the 9-hole pitch and putt, a chance to meet golf pro, Dan Fisher, and hit some balls with him on the driving range, plus free access to the Knights Realm adventure golf course.

“Over at the Aquadrome, there’ll be a wide range of fitness classes people can try, including kettlebells, indoor cycling, Body Balance – a bit like yoga – plus many more.

“There’s free parking and a friendly welcome at all centres, so I’d encourage local people to take advantage of this free weekend of fun and fitness in Basingstoke.

“The activities will be a mixture of turn up on the day and bookable sessions, so please check our websites for all details, and get ready to start planning a free weekend of activity for you and the family.”
