A WOMAN from Basingstoke recently ran her sixth marathon to raise money for children who are suffering from a life-limiting disease, Mitochondrial.

Hairdresser Charlotte Vickery took part in the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, September 25 to raise money for a charity close to her families heart, The Lily Foundation.

She completed the marathon that is 26.2 miles-long in a personal best time of three hours and 29 minutes, wearing a Lily Foundation branded top.

Charlotte's sister, Fran, has been a carer for a young boy called Arthur, 11, for the past seven years, and sadly suffers from mitochondrial disease. So throughout these years Charlotte has aimed to help raise awareness and vital funds for The Lily Foundation who help support children like Arthur.

She said: "Completing these runs makes me feel happy, that I am doing my part to help a charity that helps so many children and needs people to support them. It also means so much to my family, and I will always do all I can to help and raise awareness."

Mitochondrial is a genetic condition that impacts the body's energery production, which can cause anything from vising and hearing problems to heart, kidney or liver diseases.

The Lily Foundation helps support patients suffering from this disease as well as their families, funds scientic research to help develop treatments and aims to raise awarness of mitochondrial disease.

In 2018 Charlotte also took part in the London Marathon and raised more than £4,000.
