GOK-TASTIC! That was the verdict of Basingstoke mum Sallie Ann Weir, who won a makeover with television stylist Gok Wan.

Mrs Weir was treated to a complete style overhaul by the no-nonsense star of the TV show How to Look Good Naked after her son entered her in a competition run by Gazette Newspapers in conjunction with high street fashion chain New Look.

The 51-year-old, who works in Neils Pharmacy in Brighton Hill, was also celebrating her birthday on Saturday, which added to the sense of occasion.

She was whisked off to the Basingstoke New Look store in Festival Place where she was met by Gok and two other lucky women who won a makeover through a competition on the store's website.

Mrs Weir, of Pittard Road, Cranbourne, Basingstoke, said: "It has been a brilliant afternoon. I never would have picked the outfit I have ended up in, but I love it!"

She added: "I watch all Gok's programmes on TV and he's just so lovely. He gives you great confidence and I really couldn't have wished for anything better."

The other winners, Vee Bull, 52, from Sherfield-on-Loddon, and Alice Ryley, 20, from Reading, also thoroughly enjoyed their day.

Mrs Bull said: "Gok is just so fantastic. He really makes you feel good about yourself and gives you so much confidence."

Speaking to The Gazette, Gok said he had really enjoyed the day, although he wished he had longer than the two-hour time limit for the complete makeover.

"You are always against the clock with these things," he explained. "But I think all the girls are pleased with the results and I have had great fun."

Gok is no stranger to Basingstoke, having visited the town several times in the past couple of years. He said he always gets a great reaction from the public.

"Today has been all about making people feel better about themselves and giving them the confidence to wear something they wouldn't necessarily choose themselves," he explained.

"I am really pleased with the results and all three girls have been great to work with."

Gok also did a signing session for the crowds who turned out to see the man himself, and was more than happy to pose for numerous pictures with his adoring fans.
