A HAIR salon that specialises in afro hair is putting on a show to raise awareness of hair loss and money for charity.

Aviy's Hair in Basingstoke has organised the forthcoming hairshow in support of Alopecia UK and Alopecia Awareness Month.

The event will be taking place at Oakridge Community Centre on September 24 from 2pm until 7pm.

Avanelle Farfen, owner of Aviy's Hair, said: "Alopecia UK is a very small charity who rely heaviliy on funding and recently, with all the cut backs they have been struggling to provide wigs to those who need them.

"What we want to try and do through this event is to make this topic less taboo, because it's not something that is really talked about. You wouldn't hear something about alopecia unless you know someone who has it themselves.

"We are going to present a personalised wig at the event to a young girl, who is 15, from Basingstoke who suffers with alopecia and two hampers will also be given away as well."

Tickets to enter are £15 and the event is open to all, featuring different stations, hair styling, an education area and a number of different stalls and exhibitors.

The hairshow will also be showcasing the latest Afro and European hairstyles with Q&A from industry experts.
