Customers at Asda in Brighton Hill have complained that the supermarket is almost out of baskets, with just a few remaining.

A spokesperson for Asda said there is an issue with customers using the baskets to carry their shopping out of the store and not returning them afterwards.

They said: “We ask that customers please return their shopping baskets when they [have] finished using them.”

Shoppers have been speculating as to why some people are stealing Asda’s baskets, with some suggesting that the store often runs out of plastic bags, resulting in people using the baskets to carry their shopping home.

Asda said it has now ordered some more baskets.

The spokesperson said: “We have some more baskets on the way to Basingstoke for customers who would like to use one whilst shopping in our store.”
