SHOPPERS can support small and independent businesses at the popular Borough Basket Street Market in Basingstoke for the last time this summer.

Basingstoke’s Top of the Town will be filled with locally made and handcrafted goods and different types of food as part of the summer monthly market for the last time on Friday, August 26.

The market will be open between 11am and 4.30pm, alongside the activities on offer as part of Fri-YAY. A jam-packed programme of family fun, Fri-YAY will run between 11am and 3pm in the Top of the Town.

The Borough Basket Street Market is a successful initiative launched last year by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, as an expansion of the online marketplace for local independent businesses at TheBoroughBasket.co.uk.

The market gives 20 local small and independent retailers an opportunity to sell their goods each month during the summer, with new retailers encouraged to come forward.

Council leader Simon Bound said: “The Borough Basket Street Market has been really popular this summer and I would like to say a big thank you to all the traders and shoppers who have supported it. Friday 26 August will be the last chance this year to visit and I would urge people to come along to see what is on offer, especially as Fri-YAY family activities will be running at the same time.

“This vibrant market gives small and independent businesses across the borough a new platform to sell their goods and encourages shoppers to buy from our local traders.”
