AN ECOLOGIST from Stanmore is welcoming the public and a fellow artist to her home art studio.

Self-taught Winchester artist Charlotte Rose is collaborating with a multi-skilled mixed media artist at her home for this year’s Hampshire Open Studios.

The public art event invites artists, venues and galleries to open their doors from August 20 to August 29.

Donna McGhie from Eastleigh will be joining Charlotte at her home studio in Fox Lane to inspire people to get creative, watch what they do and purchase paintings.

Visitors will be able to watch Charlotte painting and decorate a wand with Donna.

Charlotte, 39, took part in Hampshire Open Studios for the first-time last year.

She said: “I love talking to people about art, what inspires me and sharing the joy of the beautiful natural world and therapeutic nature of painting. Last year I welcomed one of my jeweller friends to the studio, and this year mixed media artist Donna McGhie will be joining me. I find having a variety of work on show works well to attract a variety of people.”

“I'm really looking forward to meeting new people and, of course, to forthcoming sales of our work.”

The ecologist expresses the fragility of the natural environment within her landscape paintings to raise environment awareness.

She said: “I've always been passionate about art and the natural world. I find painting extremely therapeutic- I can just switch off and go with the flow. And I'm a strong believer that everyone can benefit - is not necessarily about the end result, but the journey- a bit clichéd I know, but it is true. I find it particularly rewarding seeing the fascination of children watching me paint- it's something that should be nurtured.”

Donna, 60, uses her projects to raise money for medical causes such as the Royal Papworth Hospital.

The multi-skilled mixed-media creative said: “I used to use art as a means of communication as a very shy child, and went on to use it in my previous career as both a social worker and a counsellor. I find it a great way to unwind and unless it is a commission I tend to go with the flow rather than have a plan when creating.

"I'm an experienced tutor in the medium of Powertex, and use upcycled materials in my sculptures. Everyone is invited to get creative and have a go.”

Charlotte added: “I'm excited to team up with such a creative spirit and open the doors for all to get involved with our art. Nature and the environment features strongly in our work and creates a powerful emotional connection.”

The Stanmore studio in 22 Fox Lane was built as part of an extension to Charlotte’s home last year. The studio will be open 10am until 5pm Saturday, August 20 to Monday, 22 and Friday, 26 to Sunday, August 28. There will be an earlier closing time of 4pm on the Bank Holiday Monday.
