A CANCER charity has received nearly £10,000 of financial support from a building services company based in Basingstoke.

The Blue Space, a branch of The Pink Place charity, that cares for men with cancer diagnosis, received £9,457.47 from the Champion Group, a building services firm based in Wella Road.

The Champion Group, which initially supported The Pink Place as their nominated Charity of the Year in 2015, decided to get behind The Blue Space because of their post-Covid needs.

With estimates suggesting that one in two people will be affected by cancer, Champion Group said it was clearly time to get behind the charity once again.

Kevin Croombs, group accountant, said: “We were delighted to raise £9,457.47 across the year with a range of activities including a skydive, golf day, dress down days, bake off and other fundraising events.

“We’d like to thank everyone who donated and contributed in any way to our fundraising efforts.”

Christine Griffiths, fundraising and events manager at The Pink Place, said: “Champion Group has a long, established reputation for its support of local charities and the community as a whole.

“Partnering them during these last 12 months has not only increased awareness and the profile of our charity, but the astonishing amount of money they raised will help towards our charity’s running costs, enabling us to continue to provide free wellbeing sessions, complementary therapies, counselling, mindfulness, friendship and support to the increasing number of adults living in our community with a cancer diagnosis and who need access to our services.”
