A LARGE fire broke out in a woodland in Basingstoke on Friday morning (July 29).

Two crews of firefighters from Basingstoke arrived at the scene on Priestley Road and tacked the fire in around an hour.

The firefighters were called at 11.37am.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said a 20m-by-20m area of woodland was alight.

The fire was extinguished using compressed air foam.

The firefighters returned to station at 12.54pm.
