• A CHINEHAM man has been handed a community order for repeatedly sending threatening messages to another man last year.

Alexander Darling, of Redshank Crescent, harassed the man between December 11 and December 24, 2021.

At Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on July 14, the 28-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence.

He was handed a community order comprising of 25 rehabilitation activity days and 60 hours of unpaid work.

A restraining order was also placed against with respect to the victim, and he must pay costs of £85 and a £95 surcharge.

  • A BASINGSTOKE man has been fined hundreds of pounds for drug driving in the town.

George Clark, of Cobbett Green, was driving along Winchester Road on April 18 with 32ug/L of cocaine in his blood, as well as 800ug/L of cocaine product Benzoylecgonine.

The legal limits are 10 and 50 respectively.

At Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on July 14, the 29-year-old pleaded guilty to both offences and was fined £600.

He must also pay costs of £80 and a £60 surcharge and was disqualified from driving for 15 months.

  • A BASINGSTOKE man has been fined after being found guilty of assaulting an emergency officer.

Leon Banning, of Mullins Close, pleaded not guilty to the charge of common assault, but was found guilty at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on July 15.

The 29-year-old was found to have assaulted a police officer in the town on May 29.

He was handed a £180 fine, plus £150 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

  • A BASINGSTOKE man has been fined for speeding in Twickenham.

Glenn Melson Williams, of Winterthur Way, drove his Ford vehicle on the A316 on July 16 2021 at a speed exceeding the 40mph limit in place.

At Aldershot Magistrates’ Court on July 18, 2022, the 47-year-old pleaded guilty and was fined £36.

He must also pay costs of £30 and a £34 surcharge, and three penalty points were added to his driving record.

  • A BASINGSTOKE man has been sent to prison for four months for assaulting a woman in the town.

Dmitrijs Romanuks, of Oakridge Road, assaulted the woman by beating her on June 6.

He pleaded guilty to the offence on June 8, but then was further found to have broken his bail conditions by contacting the woman on July 15, which he admitted to on July 18.

The 37-year-old appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on July 18, where he was handed a 16-week custodial sentence due to the “unprovoked” and “serious” nature of the assault, as well as “disregard” for court orders and aggravated by previous convictions.

He must also pay costs of £85 and a £128 surcharge.

  • AN Odiham man has been ordered to complete unpaid work after he was caught drink driving, caused damage to a garden wall and failed to stop.

Jake Cottrell, of Hillview, Potbridge, was driving a Vauxhall Corsa on Grace Bennett Close in Farnborough on November 20, 2021with 63 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

On the same date at the same place, an accident occurred which led to the damage of a garden wall, after which the 20-year-old failed to stop.

He pleaded guilty to the failure to stop in December, but initially denied the drink driving, before changing his plea on May 4, 2022.

At Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on July 18, Cottrell was handed a community order comprising 150 hours of unpaid work and a 17-month driving disqualification.

He must also pay £100 in costs and a £95 surcharge.
